School Transport Information

There is a Bus Eireann service which runs from Portlaoise town to Barnashrone National School each day.

Most of our children use this service and for the school year 2022-2023, it has been free of charge due to a government initiative. However, I believe that from September 2023 – a charge will be made for this service.

The school does not decide who is entitled to use the service and application is done directly through the Bus Eireann website:

Tips for applying:

Use a laptop or PC - as the site does not work on phones or tablets.

If you have applied for school places nearer to your home e.g. Portlaoise Town, ensure that you have a letter from the schools proving that there was no place for your child in that school/schools as this may be required to prove eligibility for the service.

If you are refused access to the bus service and have been unable to find a school place closer to your home, you may still be entitled to the bus service. Please contact us if this is the case and we can investigate further.
